X/Twitter is tweaking how its block button works to improve transparency on the platform. Until now, blocking another user on X/Twitter would still allow you to reply to their posts. However, that other user wouldn’t be able to see your replies. X is now changing that to make replies from people who have blocked you visible to you.
“If a user who has blocked you replies to one of your posts, you will now be able to see their reply. This change enables you to identify and report any potential bad content that you previously could not view, safeguarding both your account and the overall integrity of our platform,” the company explained.

Elon Musk previously said last year that he wanted to get rid of the block feature on X, except for private messages. Musk seemed to believe at the time that the Mute feature, which lets users remove an account’s posts from their timeline was enough.
Well, if X ultimately didn’t remove its block feature, the company believes that this change will reinforce the platform’s “public town square” status. “Our goal is to allow users to control their experience while maintaining the public visibility of posts,” the company explained in the announcement.
