Microsoft Opens Up Access to its Xbox Mastercard in the US

Xbox Mastercard

The Xbox Mastercard that Microsoft first made available to Xbox Insiders last fall is now broadly available in the US. Microsoft has teamed up with Barclays to issue the card, which has no annual fee and allows its owners to earn points to spend on digital games, add-ons, and more.

“In September 2023, Xbox Insiders received early access to the Xbox Mastercard to help shape the customer experience,” the Xbox team said today. “The credit card delivers a unique value tailored to players by using a points system that allows them to spend points on things they love.”

Owners of the Xbox Mastercard will earn 1 card point (100 card points have a $1 value) for every dollar spent on everyday purchases. However, they can also earn 3 card points for every $1 spent on eligible dining delivery services like Grubhub and DoorDash, as well as streaming services like Netflix and Disney+. Lastly, cardmembers can earn 5x card points when purchasing eligible products on the Microsoft Store.

Again, these card points can be redeemed on digital Xbox games and add-ons, gift cards, consoles, accessories, the first payment of subscriptions, and more. The Xbox Mastercard also provides additional benefits after the first purchase, including a bonus of 5,000 card points ($50 value) and a free code for 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Microsoft also announced additional benefits that will be awarded to both existing and new cardmembers:

  • A free code for 3 months of Spotify Premium (only for new members).
  • Two 3-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate codes to gift to friends or family after spending $7,000 or more within the first 12 months.
  • All cardmembers are automatically upgraded to Level 2 of Microsoft Rewards, which unlocks more possibilities to earn points

While the Xbox Mastercard has no annual fee and $0 fraud liability protection, APR rates range from 20.99% to 31.99% based on your creditworthiness and other factors. The card is only available for people 18 years and older in the US, but you must have an Xbox profile associated with your Microsoft account to apply for the Xbox Mastercard. The card is also available in five different designs and can be personalized with your gamertag.
