Proton Drive now supports secure and private photo backup on the iPhone. The feature launched on Android in late 2023.
“Anyone with an iPhone can now enjoy Proton Drive’s secure and private photo backup capabilities,” Proton’s Anant Vijay writes. “With Proton Drive, your cherished moments are protected by end-to-end encryption and accessible whenever and wherever you need them.”

Phone-based photo backup was one of Proton’s biggest feature requests for Drive, and now it’s available to basically everyone on mobile. Enabling the feature is simple enough: Just download and install the Proton Drive mobile app, navigate to the Photos tab, and tap “Turn on backup.” After giving your permission for the app to access your photo library, Proton Drive will back up all your photos to the cloud. (It will do so in the background if you let it, but only using Wi-Fi.)
Your phone photos appear in the Photos view in Proton Drive and are organized by date and grouped by month. Proton Drive also supports offline availability so you can view photos on your devices even when you’re not connected to the Internet.
Proton hints that its next Drive announcement will be for a major update that adds a new service to the product. In the meantime, you can download Proton Drive for the iPhone in the Apple Apps Store.
