It’s Official: Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is Coming on Day One on Game Pass

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Game Pass

Microsoft has finally confirmed what multiple Xbox execs have been teasing for quite some time now: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on day one on Game Pass when it launches later this fall. The Xbox team had already announced that the game will have its own ‘Direct’ event on June 9, right after Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase.

“We’re excited to confirm that Game Pass members will be able to jump into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on day one with Game Pass,” the Xbox team said today. “As revealed last week, we will have a special Xbox Games Showcase followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct on June 9, 2024, at 10am PT, where we’ll share even more details on what’s coming in this all-new Call of Duty.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is expected to be set during the Gulf War, and the Xbox team hinted at a “dark new chapter” in the Black Ops series. A new trailer titled “The Truth Lies” is also out today, and you should recognize Saddam Hussein, George H. W. Bush, and Margaret Thatcher in it.

Since Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October, Diablo IV is still the only game from the publisher that made its way to the Game Pass library. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be the first Activision Blizzard game to launch on day one on Game Pass, and it should also be one of the biggest games of 2024.

Over the past 10 years, Activision’s marketing deal for Call of Duty with PlayStation made the PS4 and PS5 the main platforms for Call of Duty. Black Ops 6 coming on day one on Game Pass may eventually change that, though Microsoft will be happy to continue selling millions of copies of the annualized franchise on PlayStation consoles. Last year, Microsoft also signed a 10-year deal with Nintendo to bring back Call of Duty games on the company’s consoles, but that may not happen until the successor to the Switch is finally released.
