New Epic Games Launcher Arrives in Preview for Windows, Mac, and Linux

Epic Games announced the availability of its long-awaited new Epic Games Launcher for the PC, in preview. And it’s not just for Windows: There are versions for the Mac and Linux, too, and Epic is bringing Easy Anti-Cheat and Fortnite to Linux soon.

“Programming is hard,” the Epic Games Store Team explains. So, instead of doing that, we vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher that’s way faster and more responsive than the current one, and has a new look. This first release is light on features. Think of it as a speedboat and not a yacht! Though it does have advanced digital commerce technology such as a shopping cart.”

Here’s what’s new:

  • Dramatically improved performance and lower resource usage
  • Voice chat with friends across Fortnite, Epic Games Store, and the Epic Games app
  • New game landing pages with status, activity, details, and play controls
  • Customizable top bar, collections, library, and views
  • New download experience with detailed read and write speeds, more

Epic Games also revealed that Fortnite is coming to the Launcher on Linux along with a rebuilt Easy Anti-Cheat that’s required for that game to work on Linux.

“We are rebuilding our Linux anti-cheat implementation into EAC Linux v2,” the company says. “We will bring the level of protection much closer to par with Windows, in the very near-term, using existing Linux features including signed kernel, signed kernel modules, and secure boot with attestation. These requirements build on work that distribution maintainers already do, and the more distributions that meet these requirements by default, the fewer players will need to change their setup to play.”

You can learn more and download the new Epic Games Launcher from the Epic Games website.
