Microsoft Drops Windows 11 Insider Build 26241 on the Canary Channel

Windows 11

Microsoft temporarily paused the rollout of the Windows 11 Canary build 26236 on Tuesday, and the company said at the time that it would resume flights to the Canary Channel “shortly.” Well, the company delivered yesterday with the build 26241, which is now available to download on the Canary Channel.

As Paul explained yesterday, the Canary build 26236 had hidden code to unlock the AI-powered Recall feature that Microsoft has now delayed. This is likely what pushed Microsoft to stop the rollout of this build, though as of this writing, it’s not clear if yesterday’s build 26241 removed that Recall code. Of course, the release notes make no mention of that.

What the Canary build 26241 brings, however, is the ability to drag and drop files between breadcrumbs in the File Explorer address bar, a feature that previously rolled out to other Channels. Insiders may also notice that it’s now easier to see when files or folders are selected with the addition of a thin border to the selected area.

With this build, Microsoft is also tweaking notifications to require a longer period of time without engaging with notifications from certain apps to make the OS suggest turning off notifications for them. The company also updated the app icon flashing in the taskbar to make it a bit easier to see.

Yesterday, Microsoft also started rolling out its standalone Copilot app to all Windows 11 and Windows 10 Insiders on the Beta and Release Preview Channels. Instead of being pinned to the right side of the desktop, Copilot on Windows now works as a regular app that can be resized and moved around the screen.
